Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Advance Care Planning

Course programme 2008

SHARP Records & Plans repeated our very successful 2 day courses, first held in 2007, which are suitable for proprietors, managers, deputy managers, nurses and senior care staff from care homes for older people. It is also relevant for care professionals involved in quality of care for care homes.

You should attend our course if you

  • would like to understand the implications of the Mental Capacity Act
  • would like to offer your residents the opportunity to record their wishes for their care if they are not able to express them using SHARP Records & Plans proprietary Advance Care Planning tool
  • want to know when you should consult with other people about a resident’s care and when you should not

Our 2008 course programme is commissioned and supported by the Department of Health and Social Care Institute for Excellence as part of a programme of work on implementing the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Why you should attend our courses

Speakers are experts in their field and include the following:-

  • David Pennington, who is leading the implementation of the Mental Capacity Act in the South West of England
  • Andrew Makin, Director of Nursing, Registered Nursing Homes Association
  • Dr. Harry Yoxall, a practising GP

Learning is by a range of methods, with opportunities to explore how the Act will affect your approach to caring for older people in your home. All learning materials are related directly to working with this group of people. They include, where appropriate, the official training materials, developed for the implementation of the Mental Capacity Act for residential care homes.
